Gully Canyon, created by the river Grijalva, became popular with passengers after the river has been dammed for power hydropower. Before the dam, the river was not navigable. After the dam, the water rose to travel the river much safer. Those who wish to travel on the river to launch Cauhaure found near Chiapa de Corzo. The descent to the river offers visitors the opportunity to see the high canyon walls. In some places the walls rise over 2500 feet above visitors. A point on the trip, tourists can see the moss hanging from the rock walls of the canyon wall. This gives an aspect of the Christmas tree shape that makes it one of the most interesting places on the river trip. Visitors can also see some interesting wildlife on the trip as herons, egrets, kingfishers, monkeys and even crocodiles. The boat will take passengers from their starting point the way to an area near the power plant. The water is deep in its proximity to hydroelectric power is received at a depth of 860 feet.
